Ahmed Yusuf
Dear Consulate,
This is Ahmed Yusuf from Toronto. I am writing my feedback because our embassies need to improve their service as required. I did four-day trip to Hargeisa. Once I arrived Hargeisa, I have realized that my single-entry visa which granted by Bole International Airport should be expired or not valid.
That being said, I visited Ethiopian consulate office in Hargeisa on July 11/2023 to have second entry visa to Ethiopian. Unfortunately, the local officer advised me that no need to have another visa because I had three months visa stamped on Canadian passport. In fact, I told her that its single-entry visa, but she said it is OK. Based on officer’s advice, I travelled to Wochale to enter Ethiopia but not succeed, in fact, they grounded me for two days in Wochale until new online visa is granted.
To be true, I am not outsider but Ethiopian by birth, so I have decided to put my feedback which is specific to improving current process. In sum, this is the second time I have been disappointed with our embassy abroad and listed for your information.
1) In 1991, I have tried to get Ethiopian passport and applied in our embassy in Ottawa, Canada.
a. Our local officer asked me if I speak Amharic, then really, I lost interest, and left local office.
b. The truth is that none of local officers speak multiple languages the way I do. In fact, I speak and write Amharic, Harari, Somali, Oromo, and English languages fluently.
2) Again, in 2023 July 11, I obtained unprofessional service from Ethiopian embassy in Hargeisa. Note: This is not complaint but request for process improvement.
Thanks, Ahmed
